Since President Paul Biya took office on the 6th of November, 1982, the country has experienced series of reforms both at the civil and military sectors which has helped to guaranty peace and stability in the country. As the reforms are aimed at ameliorating the living together by improving the sense of belonging to all Cameroonians.
Amongst the reforms are the 1990 law on democracy which removed Cameroon from a one party to a multiparty state thus giving diverse options for Cameroonians to choose which party they intend to serve. The strongly centralised constitution of 1972 was amended in January 1996 so as to liberalise the political climate of the country. The amendments amongst others called for the establishment of a 100 member senate as part of a bicameral legislature which saw the light of day in 2013. The creation of regional councils and the fixing of the presidential mandate to 7 years renewable once is also part of the president’s reforms for true democracy to reign in the nation.
Still concerning the reforms the ratification of human right is another factor that cannot be under minded as Cameroonians irrespective of their gender and cultural inclination can now worship freely in their synagogues without fear of being arrested as it was the case before he took power.
All this effort just to see that the spiritual lives of his citizens are well taken care of for it is the spiritual that dominates the physical. For a man with a strong spiritual education will be a good and patriotic citizen for the basis of all spiritual believes is the fear of God and the respect and love for one another.
Also the proliferation of many media houses in the country today a good example to show how far since the reign of the president of the Republic is Excellency Paul Biya things has changed from censorship to freedom, thanks to the president’s policy of open democracy for all. Freedom of speech cannot be shorn of existing in Cameroon as some media organs even go as far as abusing the Head of State and his family and all he does is laugh over the issue.
Another domain that has witnessed drastic reforms is the military domain as the head of state during his 2001 reforms states it clear that he will rejuvenate, equip and professionalise the Cameroon Defence Forces. A vision he is accomplishing as now the Cameroon Defence forces is looked upon as the cross roads of profession as all rear gem of the different fields are found in it.
At the level of equipment he made sure that the Defence Forces is not just well equipped but with equipment’s of the latest technology existing in the market. It is this vision that is keeping Cameroon tall irrespective of the multiple attacks both in and out of the national territory.
